The Sentry is a turret that finds and shoots enemies on its own. It is built with the Struction Console by pressing 1.

Behavior

  • It locks onto the nearest enemy within 30 m that it can see, and keeps shooting that target for as long as it stays alive, in range and in sight. A closer enemy does not pull it away from a target it can still hit.
  • It waits 0.25 s after acquiring a new target before the first shot, so a quick peek draws no fire.
  • The barrel turns toward the target at a limited speed and only fires when it is pointed at an enemy. A target strafing at full speed within about 2.3 m can outrun the turn.
  • It aims at the chest, and switches to the head when only the head shows, such as over a ledge.
  • At level 3 it adds a rocket pod: salvos of 4 small, fast rockets, 0.15 s apart, starting every 3 s while it has a target.
  • With no target it sweeps slowly from side to side.
  • Its kills and damage are credited to its builder.

Building and upgrading

Placing, carrying, repairing and upgrading work the same for every building; see Struction Console#Buildings. The sentry does nothing until it is fully built and is idle while it upgrades.

Tips

  • Place it around a corner from where enemies come, so they reach it close up and inside its range before they can see it from far away.
  • Long-range weapons outrange it: anything beyond 30 m is safe from it.
  • Keep a Hammerench on hand and upgrade it: level 2 doubles its fire rate, and level 3 adds rockets.

Kill feed icons

A sentry's kills show an icon for its level; a level 3 sentry's rockets use the level 3 icon. See Kill feed.
