Ammo is one of the three resources, with health and materials.

Most weapons carry ammo: a magazine that you fire from and a reserve that you reload from. Each weapon keeps its own ammo, so running dry on one does not touch the others.

Magazine and reserve

  • Firing spends ammo from the magazine. When it is empty the weapon stops firing until you reload.
  • Press R to reload. The magazine is filled from the reserve, as far as the reserve allows. You cannot fire while reloading, and you cannot reload with a full magazine or an empty reserve.
  • The Minigun and the L.E.B. have a magazine but no reserve. They never reload: once the magazine is empty, only a refill brings it back.
  • Every life starts with a full magazine and a full reserve on every weapon.

Refilling ammo

  • Ammo pickups give every weapon you carry a share of its reserve: 25% for a small pack, 50% for a medium one and 100% for a large one, rounded up so even a small pack always gives something. Your loaded magazine is left alone, so you still have to reload. A weapon with no reserve gets the ammo straight into its magazine.
  • The same packs refill materials for builders. You can pick one up whenever any of your weapons or your materials are short.
  • The Dispenser tops up the weapon you are holding while you stand near it: 5% of its reserve every 0.4 s at level 1, rising to 10% at level 3.
  • In your own team's spawn room, every weapon's reserve stays full.
Note: Pickups and the Dispenser fill the reserve, not the magazine. After a refill, reload to use it.

Weapons without ammo

Melee weapons (Cast Iron Pan, Broadsword, Hammerench, Basher Tentacle), the healing tools (Mender, Soul Linker), the Struction Console, the Chield and passive items such as the Pet Rock, the Rocket Pads and the Bauble of Condensed Air use no ammo and never need refilling.

On the HUD

While you hold a weapon that uses ammo, the bottom of the screen shows the ammo icon, the rounds in your magazine in large numbers and your reserve in small numbers. The readout hides for weapons without ammo.
