Centralia is a Conquer map. Two teams spawn at opposite ends of a long, narrow lane through an abandoned anthracite mining town built over an underground coal fire, and a glowing area starts at its center.
Rules on this map
- Setup: the area is locked and the spawn doors are shut for the first 20 seconds.
- Clock: 10 minutes once the area unlocks.
- Pushing: 1.0 m/s for one player of a team in the area, 1.3 for two, 1.55 for three and 1.75 m/s for four or more.
- Overtime: ends once the trailing team has had nobody in the area for half a second.
- Sinkholes: anyone who falls into one dies.
- Respawns use the normal 8 second timer.
- Each team has 1 spawn room, at its end of the lane. Its doors open for that team alone.
The map
The lane is about 220 m long between the spawn doors and about 44 m wide, and the two halves mirror each other.
- The center is where the fire broke through: smoking fissures, upheaved scorched slabs and sinkholes around a small wooden miners' chapel on a rise.
- The patch village on either side has miners' shacks at odd angles, boardwalks between levels, outhouses, timber stacks and ore wagons.
- The colliery holds the coal breaker, a headframe, a rail spur with hopper cars, coal piles and the mine portal.
Trivia
- Centralia is named after Centralia, Pennsylvania, a real anthracite mining town. A fire in the coal seams beneath it has burned since 1962 and still smokes from cracks in the ground. Most residents were relocated in the 1980s and 1990s, the town's ZIP code was withdrawn in 2002, and only a handful of people still live there. The map's smoking fissures, sinkholes and abandoned village are a nod to it.
