Level Editor/Menus/File
The File menu opens, saves, imports and exports maps.
Items
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| New | Clears the editor for a new, unsaved map. It does not ask to save the open map, so save first. |
| Open... | Opens a map. Choose the map's folder (the one holding meta.json).
|
| Save (Ctrl+S) | Saves to the map's folder. A map that was never saved asks for a folder first. |
| Save As... | Saves the map into another folder. Choose an empty folder, or a map's folder to replace that map (you are asked to confirm with Replace). |
| Import Custom Asset... | Adds a model, material, texture or sound file of your own to the map. See Custom assets. |
| Import Source Map (BSP / VMF)... | Brings a Source engine map into the open map. See Importing Source maps. |
| Export as GLTF... | Writes the level's geometry as a standard .gltf file, for use in other 3D programs. It is not a playable map.
|
| Export to TeamSpec (.tsmap)... | Builds the file TeamSpec plays. See Exporting and publishing. |
| Scan Asset Manifest | Looks for assets that were added to the editor's asset library since it started and registers them, so they can be used and exported. The status line says how many it found (Asset manifest: No new assets found when none). |
| Missing Assets... | Lists every model, material and texture the map refers to that cannot be found, and lets you replace or relink each one. See Missing assets. |
| Quit | Closes the editor. With unsaved changes you are asked Do you want to save before quitting?: Save, Discard or Cancel. |
When files change on disk
The editor notices when files in the map's folder change behind its back (for example a gamemode script you edited in another program):
- Script Changed on Disk: a script changed on disk while the editor also has unsaved edits to it. Use the File takes the version on disk; Keep the Editor's keeps yours.
- Files Changed on Disk: saving would overwrite files that changed since the editor last read them. The dialog lists them; Overwrite saves the editor's version. While this is unresolved, auto-save pauses and the status line says Auto-save paused: ... changed on disk. Save to choose which version to keep.
- Map Did Not Load Cleanly: some parts of the map could not be loaded when it was opened. Auto-save is off for such a map (Auto-save off: ... did not load cleanly). When you save, the dialog lists the files that did not load; Save Anyway keeps each of those files exactly as it is on disk and writes everything else, so nothing that failed to load is lost.
