Prop Path

Shortcut Enter or double-click places; Backspace takes back an anchor; Alt+click smooth anchor
Works on A row of props along a route: fences, railings, lamp posts, hedges
Settings Tool Properties

Prop Path repeats one or more props along a route you click, so a fence follows a field's edge, a railing follows a walkway and a row of posts lines a road. The pieces are placed as ordinary props in a new group, so you can still move or delete any of them afterwards.

Laying a prop path

  1. Place the prop or props to repeat (a fence panel, or a post and a panel) and select them.
  2. Choose Functional > Prop Path (fences, rows). The panel shows the Pattern, the props it will repeat in order. With none selected it says none yet: select the prop(s) to repeat, and the last pattern you used is kept.
  3. Click along the route. Each click is a corner the pieces meet exactly. Alt+click drops a smooth anchor the route bends through instead.
  4. The pieces show as you go, and the settings change them live.
  5. Enter or a double-click places them as plain props in a new group. Backspace takes back the last anchor; Esc abandons the route.

The props you selected stay where they are.

Settings

Kept between uses, so a fence's settings carry on to the next fence.

Setting Type Default What it does
Spacing (0 = end to end) Meters 0 Distance from one piece to the next along the route. 0 lays each piece end to end at its own length, like a fence.
Overlap Meters, -1 to 1 0 How far each piece reaches into the next when laid end to end. Raise it when a post's cap stops the panels short of its body; negative leaves a gap.
Fit to corners Check box On Each run between corners holds a whole number of pieces, spaced to meet both corners. Off, pieces are laid at their own spacing from the start of each run and the last gap is left open.
Stretch to fit Check box On With Fit to corners, each piece is also scaled along the route to close the gaps fitting leaves.
First piece on corners Check box Off Each run is closed with the pattern's first piece, centerd on every corner and end: a post-and-panel fence gets a post on every corner.
Follow slope Check box On Pieces tilt with the route up and down a slope. Off, they stand upright.
Length axis List Auto Which of a piece's own axes runs along the route: Auto (the longer of X and Z), X or Z.
Turn Degrees, -360 to 360 0 Turns each piece about its up axis once it is laid along the route. 180 turns a fence to face the other way.
Sideways offset Meters, -10 to 10 0 Moves each piece this far to the right of the route.
