| Works on | Cuts brushes along a plane |
| Settings | None |
The Clip tool cuts brushes with a flat plane. Use it for slopes, angled walls, chamfered corners, roofs, or to split one brush into two. It works in the 3D view and, the way Hammer's clipper does, in the 2D views.
In the 3D view
- Select the brush (or brushes) to cut and pick Clip.
- Click on the surface of a brush to place the first cutting point.
- Click again for the second point. The two points and the face they lie on define the cutting plane.
- Optionally click a third point: then the three points define the plane.
- Press Enter to cut.
Backspace deletes the last point you placed.
In a 2D view
- Select the brushes, pick Clip, and go to the Top, Front or Side view.
- Drag a line across them. The cut runs along the line and straight through the view; both ends snap to the grid (and to smart guides).
- Every brush the line crosses shows what it keeps in yellow and what it loses in red, in every view.
- Drag either end of the line to adjust it.
- Shift+C cycles what is kept: the front (the side to the right of the line, walking from where you started it; a tick marks it), the back, or both, which splits each brush in two.
- Enter clips every selected brush the line crosses, as one undo step, and leaves the others alone. Esc drops the line.
Tip: To make a slope: draw a box, then in the Front or Side view clip it from one top corner down to the opposite bottom corner.
Notes
- Clip only cuts with a plane. To cut a hole, use Edit > Subtract Brush (CSG) (see Brushes and CSG); to add edges without removing anything, use Loop Cut.
