Settings Tool Properties

The Path Brush tool lays a solid strip along a route you click: a winding path, a bridge, a road, a ramp that curves round a hill, or the bed under a payload track. It is a brush you can walk on, and it stays editable as a path: move an anchor and the whole strip follows.

Laying a path brush

  1. Pick Path Brush on the toolbar.
  2. Click along the route to drop anchors on the surfaces you click. The walking surface sits Top below line under the line through them.
  3. Alt+click drops a sharp anchor: a mitred corner between straight runs. A normal anchor is smooth, so the path curves through it.
  4. Enter or a double-click finishes the brush (it needs at least two anchors). Backspace takes back the last anchor, Esc abandons it.

Editing a path brush

Select a path brush (or one of its anchors) with this tool active, or finish laying one. Then:

  • Drag an anchor to move it.
  • Click the brush to add an anchor there.
  • Click anywhere else to extend the path from its nearer end.
  • Alt+click an anchor to make it sharp or smooth.
  • Press Delete over an anchor to take it out.
  • The settings change the brush being edited.

Enter or Esc lets go of the brush. Each edit is one undo step.

Height: anchors land on what you click. Raise one with the Move tool, or drag it onto something higher, to climb.

The scene tree also has Edit Path, Insert Path Anchor and Reverse Path in its right-click menu.

Settings

These are both the tool's settings for the next brush and the inspector settings of a path brush.

Setting Type Default What it does
Width Meters, 0.05 to 50 3.0 How wide the walking surface is. It stays level across: the strip never rolls.
Depth Meters, 0.05 to 50 0.5 From the walking surface down to the underside.
Top below line Meters, -10 to 10 0 How far the walking surface sits below the line you draw. 0.22 lays a bed under a payload track drawn on the same anchors (the track's line is its rail top). In the inspector this is Top Offset.
Top material Material the Materials tab's The walking surface's material. Empty uses the material selected in the Materials tab when the brush is laid.
Side material Material the Materials tab's The material of the sides, underside and ends.

Each anchor has Smooth in the inspector (on by default): off makes it a sharp corner. A straight run up a ramp needs a sharp anchor at each end to stay on the ramp; a smooth one at the foot would bow it off.

You can also paint single faces of a path brush with the Material Brush.
