Level Editor/Panels/Displacement
The Displacement tab (bottom right) paints materials onto displacement surfaces. A displacement can blend up to four material layers (0 to 3); you choose a material for each layer here and paint where each one shows.
With no displacement selected the tab says Select a displacement surface to paint materials.
Layers
- Paint Layer (5-8 keys): the buttons 0, 1, 2 and 3 choose which layer you paint. Keys 5 to 8 do the same while the Displacement tool is active.
- Layer Materials (click to assign): for each Layer 0: to Layer 3::
- the material button ([None] until set) opens the material picker;
- the slider sets that layer's texture scale (how large it tiles);
- the color swatch is the layer's tint, multiplied into its color.
Layer 0 is what the surface shows where nothing else is painted.
Brush Settings
| Setting | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Radius: | Meters | 2.0 | The paint brush's radius. [ / ] change it. |
| Strength: | 0.001 to 10 | 5.0 | How quickly a stroke paints the layer in. |
Auto-Texture (Slope-Based)
Paints by slope for you: grass-like layer 0 on flat ground, rock-like layer 1 on steep ground.
- Enable Auto-Texture shows the settings.
- Grass Angle: (default 0.70) and Rock Angle: (default 0.40) are slopes from 0 (flat) to 1 (vertical). Ground flatter than the Grass Angle gets layer 0, ground steeper than the Rock Angle gets layer 1, and in between the two blend.
- Apply Auto-Texture paints the selected displacement faces.
Tip: For a smooth blend, set the Grass Angle lower than the Rock Angle, for example 0.3 and 0.6.
The help line at the bottom reads Hotkeys: 5-8 layers, T toggle paint, [ ] radius. T switches the Displacement tool between sculpting and painting.
