The Stairs tool draws a straight flight of steps in one drag.
Drawing stairs
- Pick Stairs on the toolbar.
- Press on a surface (or in empty space) and drag out the staircase's footprint.
- Let go and drag upwards to set how high the stairs climb.
- Click to finish.
While drawing:
- Scroll wheel: turn which way the stairs climb (four directions).
- Ctrl+Scroll wheel: change the height of each step.
- Ctrl+Shift+Scroll wheel: change the depth of each step.
Tip: A player steps up 0.457 m without jumping, so keep Step Height below that. 0.25 m is a comfortable stair.
Settings
| Setting | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Step Height | Meters | 0.25 | How tall each step is. |
| Step Depth | Meters | 0.5 | How deep each step is, front to back. |
| Direction | 0 to 3 | 0 | Which of the four directions the stairs climb. The wheel changes it while drawing. |
| Collision Type | List | STATIC | STATIC for solid stairs; NONE for no collision. See Box. |
| Collision Layers / Collision Mask | Numbers | 1 | Leave at 1. |
| Alignment | List | Align to surface | Align to surface, or always the XY, XZ or YZ plane. |
| Match selected brush | Check box | On | In empty space, copy elevation and height from the selected brush. |
| Default Brush Elevation / Height | Meters | 0 / 1 | Orthogonal Viewport. Starting depth and depth when drawn in a 2D view over empty space. |
Tip: Bots and players often find a smooth ramp easier than stairs. A collision-only ramp brush over a visible staircase gives you both: the look of steps and the feel of a slope. See clips.
