Edit Vertex and Edit Edge reshape a brush by moving its corners (vertices) or its edges. Pull a corner down to make a wedge, move a top edge in to make a sloped roof, taper a column.
Using Edit Vertex
- Select a brush, then pick Edit Vertex. Its vertices show as handles.
- Click a vertex to select it. Shift+click adds, Ctrl+click toggles, Ctrl+Shift+click removes. Drag on empty space to box-select. Ctrl+A selects them all.
- Drag a vertex to move it across the horizontal (XZ) plane. Hold Alt to drag along Y. Dragging a selected vertex moves every selected vertex.
- Or press G to grab the selection and move it with the mouse.
Hover another brush and press Alt+Q to switch to editing that one.
In a 2D view one handle stands for every vertex lying under it, so in the Front view the top right corner of a box is its front and back corners together. Click it to select them all; drag it to move them all in that view. Dragging a box's top corner down in the Front or Side view makes a slope or wedge in one move. A box drag in a 2D view selects every vertex inside it, front or back.
Using Edit Edge
Works the same, with edges:
- Select a brush and pick Edit Edge.
- Click an edge to select it (same modifiers as above), drag it to move it, Alt to drag along Y.
- Subdivide Selected Edges splits each selected edge into equal pieces.
Settings
| Setting | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transform space | List | GLOBAL | Which way the drag axes point: GLOBAL (world), LOCAL (the brush's own), NORMAL, VIEW or PARENT. |
| Correct UVs | Check box | On | Re-lay the textures of the faces you change from their world position, so they do not stretch as you move vertices. |
| Subdivide cuts | 1 to 16 | 1 | Edit Edge only. How many new vertices Subdivide Selected Edges puts along each edge. 1 splits an edge in half. |
Subdivide Selected Edges (Edit Edge): Split each selected edge into equal segments. Both faces on the edge take the new vertices, so nothing cracks; UVs and vertex paint are kept.
