The Level Editor window has five parts: the top bar with the menus and the run buttons, the toolbar under it, the scene tree on the left, the viewport in the middle and the properties and tabs on the right. A status line runs along the bottom.

Toolbar

The toolbar holds every tool, in groups separated by thin lines. Click a tool to use it; click it again to put it down. Hover a button for a tooltip that explains the tool.

Group Tools
Transform Move, Rotate, Scale
Shapes Box, Sphere, Cylinder, Prism, Stairs, Spiral Stairs, Spiral Tower, Arch, Path Brush
Terrain Create Terrain, Paint / Sculpt Terrain
Utilities Clip, Duplicate, Ruler, Cordon
Mesh editing Edit Vertex, Edit Edge, Edit Face, Loop Cut
Painting and surfaces Material Brush, Vertex Color Brush, Displacement, Plane

The status line shows the tool you picked, for example Tool: Box. The tools placed from the Functional menu (lights, spawns and so on) are tools too, without a toolbar button.

Scene tree (left)

Every object in the map, in folders. The top row is the level itself. Click a row to select, drag rows to reorder or regroup, double-click to fly the camera there. See Scene tree.

Viewport (middle)

The 3D view of the map, or four views (3D, Top, Front, Side) with View > Layout: Four Views. See Viewport and camera.

Right side

The right side is split in two.

Top half:

  • Tool Properties: the settings of the tool you are using, such as a box's collision or the stairs' step height. Each tool page lists them.
  • Selection Properties: the inspector for what is selected. Change a value here and it changes on every selected object.

Bottom half, a row of tabs:

Tab For
Materials Browse, apply, create and edit materials. See Materials.
Snapping Grid step and the snapping switches. See Snapping.
UV Editor Move, turn and scale the texture on selected faces. See UV editor.
Displacement Paint material layers on displacements. See Displacement.
Props Browse and place models. See Props.
Terrain Sculpt and paint terrain. See Terrain.

Drag the splitters between the panels to resize them.

Status line and notices

  • The status line at the bottom left reports what just happened: the tool you picked, Saved map to: ..., why an action did nothing (Select 2 or more brushes to merge), playtest progress. When something seems to do nothing, read it first.
  • The bottom right briefly shows when auto-save ran.
  • ⚠ Unsaved Project! Save your project to enable auto-save appears on a map that has never been saved. Click × to hide it.
  • ⚠ Missing assets This map references assets that are not there appears when the map uses a model, material or texture that cannot be found. Repair... opens the Missing Assets dialog; × hides the notice. See Missing assets.

The window title shows the map's folder name, with a mark while there are unsaved changes.
