Two helpers that never change the map: the Ruler measures, the Cordon hides everything outside a box so you can work in a busy map.
Ruler
Measure: drag from one point to another for the length and each axis's distance.
- Pick Ruler on the toolbar (or Tools > Ruler).
- Press at one point and drag to another, in the 3D view or a 2D view.
- Every view shows the line with its length and its distance along X, Y and Z.
The ends snap like anything you place: to corners and edges you can see, the grid and smart guides. Shift turns snapping off. The reading stays until you measure again; Esc clears it.
Cordon
Cordon: drag a box in a 2D view to work inside it; everything outside is hidden from view.
- Pick Cordon on the toolbar (or Tools > Draw Cordon Box).
- In a 2D view, drag the box. It keeps its depth; a new box reaches through the whole map, so one drawn in the Top view runs from the basement to the roof.
- Everything that lies wholly outside the box is hidden. Every view draws the box in blue.
Tools > Cordon turns it on and off; Tools > Cordon to Selection puts the box round the selection and turns it on.
The cordon only changes your view, like H: the map saves, exports and playtests as it is. Turning it off shows again only what it hid; what you hid yourself stays hidden.
